How to Apply

Applications will only be accepted when the waitlist is open. Spartanburg Housing places advertisements in the local newspaper, and provides flyers to local agencies, to notify the public of the waitlist opening.

Since the demand for housing assistance often exceeds the limited resources available to HUD and the local housing agencies, long waiting periods are common. In fact, Spartanburg Housing may close its waiting list when it has more families on the list than can be assisted in the near future.

Spartanburg Housing maintains a waiting list for all housing programs. When the list is open you may submit an application for placement on a waiting list.  Once your name is reached on the waiting list, Spartanburg Housing will contact you by mail and/or email.  It is your responsibility to ensure that your address is correct and updated as needed. Wait list status will not be provided by phone nor will requests to update information be taken by phone.  Spartanburg Housing will make two attempts to contact you.  Failure to respond will result in removal of your name from the list.  Once your name has been removed from the list, you will need to reapply.

During the application process, Spartanburg Housing will collect information on family income, assets, and family composition. Spartanburg Housing will verify this information with other local agencies, your employer and all other sources of income, and will use the information to determine program eligibility and the amount of the housing assistance payment. If it is determined that your family is eligible, you will be issued a Housing Choice Voucher.

You must establish an on-line applicant account to submit an application. If you all ready have an account and are unable to access your account in the application portal and need assistance, please contact the office at 864-598-6000. Do NOT complete another account with false information (ie. Social Security Numbers and Birth Dates).  Applicants with multiple accounts and applications with false information will be rejected.  Be sure that all information is correct prior to submitting your application.  Requests to make adjustments will not be processed due to input errors.
