3 Students Receive 2021 Spartanburg Housing Marche Gault Scholarship
SPARTANBURG, SC - The Housing Authority of the City of Spartanburg awarded 3 students with the 2021 Marche Gault Scholarship on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
The Spartanburg Housing Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 and was later renamed to honor former employee, Marche Gault in 2004. Ms. Gault passed away in 2003 leaving a huge impact on the agency as she was instrumental in developing youth services including a choir, track team and after school programs for Spartanburg Housing residents. In her honor, Spartanburg Housing offers a scholarship opportunity annually to residents to assist students in their pursuit of higher education. This scholarship is for post-secondary educational opportunities to be utilized at a college or university. Since 2001, Spartanburg Housing has awarded more than 74 scholarships with a total of $126,378.
Below is the 2021 class of students who received scholarships:
Lakita Boyd, Spartanburg Community College, $1,000 - Boyd is a current student attending Spartanburg Community College. Her desire is to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Boyd's favorite quote is by Tony Robbins, "Focus on where you want to go, not on what you fear."
Sylvia Daniels, Spartanburg Community College, $1,000 - Daniels is a current student attending Spartanburg Community College. She is currently a Certified Nursing Assistant, and her desire is to receive her nursing degree so that she may "give back to her community by helping others maintain a state of wellness so that they can chase their dreams".
Autumn Daniel, Gettys D. Broome High School, $2,000 - Daniel is a 2021 Gettys D. Broome High School graduate attending Converse University in the fall to major in Pre-Med. Daniel is a hard-working academic student who has maintained a 4.557 grade point average and a rank of 26 out of 197 in her senior class, while challenging herself with Honors and Dual Enrollment coursework. With her emphasis in Health Science, she graduated with her license as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Daniel desires "to be the best doctor she could ever be".
Donations to the Marche Gault Scholarship fund may be sent to the Spartanburg County Foundation.
